Meet Stella — the pup who knows how to use 29 human words

By Peter Julian

November 15, 2020

A speech language pathologist has taught her dog to use twenty nine words to express themselves. They have a board with all the different buttons and the dog knows how to step on one of those buttons to express himself. We are aware that a dog can understand words, we teach them to know what words mean, and this works in the same way. The dog is able to communicate with their owner a lot more efficiently now.

Key Takeaways:

  • A speech pathologist has taught her dog to use twenty nine different words.
  • Not only can she say them, she can use them in a manner that expresses her feelings.
  • The way she did it is with an AAC device, that makes a word sound when a button is pushed.

“Stella’s vocabulary is up now to 29 words, and she can fluidly string them together to express her desires and her feelings.”
