November 17, 2019

When President Eisenhower was a general he was asked what made him so successful at war. Surprisingly, IQ, was not his answer. Instead Eisenhower believed that being an optimist made him and many other leaders successful. Optimists, when faced with a problem look at the positive opportunities the future may hold given the circumstances. In effect they saw the future. Pessimists, however, became frozen by what they saw as negative or difficult circumstances. No one ever found a solution to a problem if their belief from the outset was “It can’t be done.”

Key Takeaways:

  • According to physicist Dr. Michio Kaku, it is optimists, not pessimists, who see the future and its opportunities.
  • Being able to see the future is the key to intelligence, leadership and success.
  • Having a high IQs doesn’t necessarily predict having a successful future.

“Effective leadership comes from, in part, an understanding of the challenges the future might hold.”
