Although your mind is a very powerful tool, it can work for or against you depending on how you train it. Doubting your abilities will show and negatively affect future performance. You can train your mind for success by practicing mindfulness. One such way to hone this is to practice meditation. Physical exercise is also shown to be an effective way to train your brain. Another technique is to visualize goals in your mind. This is shown to have almost the same results as practicing the skill.

Key Takeaways:

  • The average person has around 70,000 distinct thoughts per day, and these can have a big influence on how you talk, act, and view the world.
  • Mindfulness — paying attention to your thoughts without judgement — and meditation can help you clear and focus your mind.
  • Physical exercise can help keep you sharp, develop discipline, and learn how to use your self-talk effectively to improve yourself.

“If you use it wisely, your mind can solve the most pressing problem and make you successful. On the contrary, if you do not know how to control or manage it well, it can go against you.”
