Becoming a Better Thinker

By Peter Julian

November 7, 2019

You can become a better thinker by using smaller steps to get there. If you bite off more than you can chew, you likely aren’t going to learn anything because it will be more difficult with you to engage in something that is not at your caliper. You want something that isn’t too easy, because then you wont grow, and don’t go for something so difficult that it feels too out of your reach, because then you won’t stick with it. You can start with classes but just make sure those classes are suitable for you and that you aren’t going too out of your way to make them happen.

Key Takeaways:

  • Taking the time to exercise and properly care for your brain is worth the effort
  • Determine what level of challenge your brain requires and mindfully choose tasks that meet that criteria
  • Surround yourself with the people that serve as role models for the change you wish to be

“We tend to be reflexive, with a desire for closure. But sometimes, if you sense that a bit more brainpower might help, a deep breath followed by even just a one-second pause may help. After all, in just that one second, your neurons fire 100 to 200 times.”
