As our understanding of stress evolves, most people have started to take it’s impact on health seriously, including brain health. Stress is actually considered a real medical condition by some places of employment, and considered as a valid reason to take time off. Most people don’t treat this as a  convenient excuse to skip work, though. They prefer to beat stress and get it out of their lives. You can use the tips below to help you relieve your stress.

Pay Attention to Your Health

If you practice healthy ways of living, you will have less reasons to become stressed. Not knowing about potential medical conditions or health concerns can leave you feeling stressed and anxious. Over time, these problems can cause irreversible damage and even greater stress. Take care of your body and mind by having routine check-ups and recommended screenings.

Aromatherapy

Use scents to reduce stress. Certain scents, such as chamomile and lavender, have been associated with eliciting a relaxation response from people who smell those scents. Using a small vial, combine a few drops of oil that you like with rock salt. Then, take the top off the vial and inhale.

Regular Exercise

You can relax by taking time to exercise. Regular exercise can help to change the harmful chemistry caused by stress in your body, and help keep your stress levels in check. This will help reduce tension and also help a person to feel in control and boost self-confidence.

Professional Massage

A great way to help you keep your stress down is to get a professional massage. Tense muscles are a byproduct of your body carrying around extensive stress. A professional massage will help to relax your mind, body and soul, leaving you feeling less stressed out.

Don’t Turn to Drugs and Alcohol

When people are stressed they sometimes turn to drugs and alcohol to calm down – their intention is for it to be a temporary way to forget about the stressful situations which are occurring in their daily lives. Taking drugs or drinking alcohol will not fix problems. Turning to drugs and alcohol will often add to problems, and cause even more stress.

Don’t Take It Out On Others

If you are under a lot of stress, and it is affecting your mood, take the time to let those around you know that it isn’t their fault. Spouses and children often think that they have acted in a way that is upsetting to you. Your stress should be your problem, and you should never take it out on those around you who you love the most. Getting your family and friends upset will just add to your stress!

Listen to Music

Music is known to reduce your stress level. Music has been shown to be very soothing when you listen to the kind of music you love. Try listening to different kinds of music to find out what relaxes you the most. Music causes you to breathe more deeply and triggers the brain to create more serotonin, thus helping you relax.

It’s a good thing that people are finally realizing that stress is real and that it can be devastating to some people, and that there are so many stress-fighting tools you can arm yourself with. Use the tools provided to you here to begin reducing your stress.
