Everything is a Practice

By Peter Julian

January 15, 2022

A client of mine changed his life by practicing self-compassion. He came to realize that the notion that Everything is Practice is a very valuable way to frame life. This view takes each frustration in life and stops seeing it as something that is wrong with us, others, or the world. It doesn’t see failure as a reason to feel bad about ourselves, but as something to practice with. This attitude can be useful at work, in dealing with other people, and in accomplishing difficult tasks. By treating it all as practice, life becomes a playground.

Key Takeaways:

  • The notion that everything is practice is a very powerful and valuable way to frame our lives.
  • Don’t treat failure as a reason to be discouraged or feel bad about yourself.
  • In dealing with others, treat each frustration as a way to practice compassion.

“Every frustration with another person is a practice ground, and the other person becomes your teacher. Bow to them with gratitude!”
