Emotionally Imbalanced? How Qigong Can Help You Heal Your Mind and Body

After being told by a loved one that they never wanted to speak with me again, I found myself curled in a fetal position on the floor and sobbing. I turned to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and researched what it says about emotions. TCM associates bodily organs with emotions, for example, the kidneys can relate to self-confidence and inner strength, or fear and loneliness, depending on whether things are in balance. Qigong – qi means, roughly, life force, and gong means work or skill – is a skill that helps you integrate the body, the mind and breathing. Qigong exercises are used to release from the body the imbalanced parts of emotions. Practicing qigong lets one better experience the ebbs and flows of life.

Key Takeaways:

  • According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, bodily organs are associated with emotional states.
  • Qi means something like energy or life force, and gong means work or skill.
  • Qigong practitioners gather qi from plants, water, sand, soil and other parts of nature.

“I wiped my tears, blew my nose, and took several deep breaths, each one shaky and ragged.”
