Why Did The Student Microwave His Notebook?

He wanted his notes to be hot?

No, this isn’t the start (or really horrible ending) of a bad joke!  There is a new notebook on the market called Rocketbook, which has the appearance and feeling of a regular paper notebook but it is far better!

This notebook can be used with a special ink that is sensitive to heat and when you put it in the microwave for 30 seconds  – POOF!  The pages are cleared so you can use it over and over again.

Of course you don’t want to lose all those helpful notes or inspired doodles, so prior to throwing it into the microwave, you can get them converted into digital documentation in the cloud.

You can send them to Evernote, Dropbox, etc. by using a special app to take pictures of the notebook.  There are symbols on the bottom of each page and you can setup your app to have different symbols go to various locations.  So you don’t even have to send all the pages to the same location!

Watch a brief video of this amazing little book on Fast Company.

You may have read some of the recent research that has shown that people tend to remember information longer if they write it down using pen and paper – since you can write it down AND file it digitally where it is easy to find, you can help your memory and be organized at the same time!

The Rocketbook notebook is a standard 8 1/2 by 11 page size, and there are 100 pages in the book.  While you can use any pen to write in this notebook, if you want to reuse the pages you can use the Pilot FriXion pens.  You get one free with the purchase of Rocketbook, but you can buy them at office supply stores and online at Amazon.

If you are wondering about how long you can keep erasing a Rocketbook, the manufacturer recommends 25 erase cycles.  You can experiment with it and see if it lasts longer than that! Your notes will also be indexed by OCR if you send them to Google Docs or Evernote.  More upgrades in that arena are planned for the future.

Buy one for yourself on Indiegogo.com.
