Social services encompass a wide range of public services that are provided by various government agencies. It includes things like healthcare, public housing and social security.

These services provide relief to lots of people.

And they are not immune to making statements without really thinking through what they are saying, just like the rest of us! Yes, Virgina, government agencies make mistakes too!

Here is an example of a communication sent from a social services department in South Carolina:

“Your food stamps will be stopped effective March 1992 because we received notice that you passed away. May God bless you. You may reapply if there is a change in your circumstances.” – Department of Social Services, Greenville, South Carolina

Sort of leaves you speechless, doesn’t it?
