Happiness, positive thinking

By Carl Phillips

21st century living can be hectic. We all have a lot going on in our lives, lots of commitments, lots of things we want to do and lots to keep up with. We need to feel at our best on a daily basis. The steps below should all help with getting the most out of today and tomorrow. You can ALWAYS have a better today!

1) Spend Time With Those You Care About

Try to spend the majority of your time with people that matter to you and people that inspire you and/or share your world view and aspirations. Make positivity and fun a permanent fixture in your life by surrounding yourself with people you care about and enjoy spending time with.

2) Do Something You Love

Treat your hobbies, interests and goals seriously and make time for them amongst life’s other commitments on a daily basis. Even better, try to identify how you might be able to make a living from one of your passions. Getting paid to do something you love can become a reality for many.

3) Give Back

The things that give us the rosiest feelings or that we’re most proud of often involve giving or providing a service to someone else. Make giving back a constant goal and daily habit. This could be something big or small but just make giving a part of your life.

4) Limit Negativity

Don’t even entertain it or people who are predominantly negative.

5) Eat Well

You wouldn’t fill your car with junk and expect to get far so why would you expect your body to be any different?!

Make an effort to ensure that at least 80% of what you eat is high quality fuel (but also enjoy the odd splurge – life is after all for living!)

6) Stay Hydrated

Water and lots of it is the order of the day. Coffee and tea are fine in moderation as well (I love my morning coffee).

7) Exercise

People who exercise regularly function better and can often deal with life stressors better. A long walk, some sprints, a visit to the gym for a weights session, it all counts. Just make regular exercise and movement a part of your life and mix things up.

8) Beat the Crowd

Rising early not only means you get to welcome in the start of a new day, it also means you beat the crowd and you can accomplish much before the rest of the world has even started.

9) Treat Yourself

Look after yourself on a daily basis by treating yourself. This could be as simple as enjoying your morning coffee in silence and thinking about all you’re grateful for, it could mean a lunchtime walk taking in some sunshine, an after work visit to the cinema, a chocolate cupcake etc. The list is endless. Just make sometime to treat yourself on a daily basis in some small way. If you can’t celebrate you, how can you expect anyone else to?

10) Rest

Don’t underestimate the importance of rest. Make getting enough quality sleep a priority. Take time to unplug from everyday life with regular trips and holidays away. You can’t sprint all the way after all!

11) Be the Best You You Can Be

Life is short so why not try to be the best you you can be? Live, learn and taste life by experiencing it. Be authentic to both yourself and others, don’t compromise on beliefs that are important to you or your own moral code. Set your own rules and blaze a trail.
